  • Text Autosave

    The new auto-save feature in Atto text editor automatically saves the content in the editor in regular intervals.

  • Single-item scale

    The new Single-item scale allows site administrator and teachers to create Single-item scale such as 'Like' inside Moodle to rate/grade student activities in Forums, Glossaries and Assignments.

  • Email files to the private files area

    Each user has a private files area within Moodle. This new feature allows users to email files to their private files area for later use in the course.


  • Improved Gradebook Experience

    - Improved navigational functionality allows for smooth and stable horizontal scrolling through grades while student names remain static.

Clicking on the single view icon next to each student’s name in the grader report takes you to the single view page displaying all the grades for the particular student.

It can be configured to generate either mean or sum of grades with or without considering weight.

  • Improved Forum Experience

    - The new Subscribe to individual discussions allows users to subscribe to a conversation rather than the entire forum.

    - New links to next and previous discussions can be used for easier navigation between discussions.

    - Email replies to forum posts feature allows responding to a forum post simply by responding from your email.

  • Improved Quiz Features

    - An improved clean view of the “Edit Quiz” page, makes it easier to manage quiz questions.

    - A new feature allows the instructor to change the layout of a quiz without going into the detailed settings.

    1. Add a page break between questions by clicking on the arrow icon
    2. Remove page break between questions by clicking on the arrow icon
    3. Drag pages up/down by clicking on the move icon

    - The Re-paginate button allows instructors to organize and change the number of questions per page quickly.

  • Improved Assignment Features

    Instructors can now add files to assignment activities that students can download for more information (e.g. examples, additional information, templates, etc.)

  • Adobe Connect

    The new Adobe Connect activity allows instructors to create and manage their synchronous events inside Moodle. Participants are able to participate in the meeting during the designated time and access the meeting recording afterwards.

  • Choice Enhancements

    Choice questions now allows more than one answer for each question. When creating a choice activity select ‘yes’ in the “Allow more than one choice to be selected” drop down list to allow selection of more than one choice.

  • Issue Reporting

    Moodle allows users to report any Moodle related issues from within the system. Follow the steps below to report any issues:

    1. Click on Issue Reporting button available at the top, next to the Feedback button. Moodle website displyaing the Issue Reporting button.
    2. The PassPort York (PPY) authentication page is displayed, login using your PPY username and password.
    3. The Issue Reporting MachForm opens in a pop-up window.
    4. Provide an explanation of the issue and submit the MachForm.

    We value feedback from our instructors, as it provide an opportunity to enhance features within Moodle.

  • Live Chat Support

    Moodle is supporting Live chat as a more efficient way to provide support for your queries.

    1. Click on Live Assistance button available at the top, next to the Issue Reporting button. Moodle website displyaing the Live Assistance button.
    2. The PassPort York (PPY) authentication page is displayed, login using your PPY username and password.
    3. The Contact us pop-up open at the bottom right of the page.
    4. Provide your employee information and follow the instructions provided to be connected to an agent. When the chat session is in off line mode, you will be given the opportunity to send a message. The offline chat pop up allows sending a message during offline hours.
  • My Courses Page

    My courses page of moodle (moodle/my courses) has been updated to make it more user friendly for instructors and students with multiple courses.

    By default all courses are organized based on academic year/session in accordion lists with the current academic year expanded and at the top. The previous year/session courses are available beneath the current academic year/session in collapsed format in reverse chronological order. Within an academic year, the sessions are ordered as following – Full Year, Fall, Winter and Other. My courses page displyaing courses categoized by academic year/session in an accordion.

    My Course page also provides the option to switch off/on listing of courses by academic year/session.

    1. From the the main course page, click on Customize this page button at the top right.

    3. The Feedback MachForm opens in a pop-up window.
    4. Provide your suggestions/feedback and submit the MachForm.
  • Course Formats

    New course formats are provided to enhance the flexibility of the system in structuring and designing course materials.

    • Socialwall format: The course is transformed into a social learning platform. This format comprises of the well-known post interface, timeline of posts, filtering of the timeline, and integration with Moodle's activities and resources.
    • Collapsed Topics format: The course is organized into collapsed sections by topics/week. This format eliminates the need for long scrolling when a course has many topics.
    • Grid format: The course is organized into a modular and visual course format that hides all topics and creates a grid of icons (one for each topic) with short titles. Clicking on an icon brings up the content from the corresponding topic.
  • Media Collection

    The new Media Collection activity enables students to upload galleries of media files – images, audio, and video. It provides the ability to add caption and comment on the uploaded media files as well as allowing instructors to grade submitted media files. The Media collection content may be displayed in a grid or carousel format . The system also allows student to “Like” and comment on the media repositories.
